counterstrike Want Counter Strike 2? Petition Valve!

More than a decade after Counter-Strike was released as a mod for Half-Life, a group of petitioners are calling for a sequel. Of course, it’s still possible to find a match in the original game, but that’s not enough for this rag-tag Facebook group, which is asking Valve to start working on Counter-Strike 2. “The petition is to show Valve Corporation that there is demand, and interest in a new and updated version of Counter-Strike: Source, since it is still very popular 10 years after the current version was released,” the petition reads. “CS needs to be back up there with the big leagues, and the only way to bolster mainstream interest (like CS used to have) would be to release a “Counter Strike 2″ whether it’s a complete rebuild or update to Counter-Strike: Source.

These protesters, who are looking for 25,000 signatures and have almost 400 now, might actually find what they’re looking for in Tactical Intervention, a similar game being developed by one of Counter-Strike’s original creators, Minh Lee. And Lee knows how hard it would’ve been to create a true sequel. In an interview with IGN last year, Lee said he was, in fact, under pressure from Valve to create a sequel, and he was also unable to alter anything in Counter-Strike: Source without upsetting fans. This begs the question: What would an angry mob of Counter-Strike fans want to see in a sequel, anyway? [Facebook via CVG]
