PSN Down for Developers Too, Sony Still Mum
Mar 01, 2010 - By Benjamin Opal
As a Playstation Network outage killed gamers’ plans for some Sunday night PS3, game developers discovered that PSN was down for their debug units as well, making it hard to get work done. Develop reports that “various developers and studios” claim their debug units are failing. Of interest to you is that these industry insiders corroborate earlier reports of internal clock issues, which throw the debug consoles into an endless loop of error messages and reboots. Sony has yet to comment on any of these unconfirmed reports; its latest Twitter update, from 12 hours ago, only says that PS3 Slim models (120 GB and 250 GB) aren’t affected according to users. It’s safe to say the situation has escalated from temporary glitch to nightmare for Sony. Here’s our original coverage. We’ll keep you posted as the story unfolds. [Develop via Kotaku]
Update: Sony confirms many problems users are reporting, and says owners of non-slim PS3 models should avoid playing until the problems are resolved, hopefully within 24 hours. For details, please see the latest coverage.
Update: Sony confirmed that this was a leap year problem, and service is restored now that it’s March 1. I’m not going to post a proper update unless more information is provided.

I am far less concerned over an outage as I am that my DLC no longer works. That's DRM for ya! Big brother needs to make damn sure you don't have a pirated copy (he believes we are all thieves) so he put some major restrictions on the console YOU bought. Then, when Big Brother has a hiccup it causes YOUR console to then believe you are a thief, and deactivate content YOU paid for, YOU downloaded, and YOU installed.
I will not purchase DLC anymore and wait for the GOTY disk versions where they add the content to the disk. Further, I was never a pirate, and don't need to be financially, but I think Sony needs to be taught a harsh lesson…..bit torrent here I come.
DRM is evil!!! Make no mistake, Sony is in your living room right now, telling you can't play your games!

This shit happens, 360 has its downtimes as well. That's not to say the system is flawless. Why the hell can't I play my games? I can't even play my PSN downloaded PS1 games. Somethings wrong there. I'm sure they will have it fixed for Battlefield Bad Company release though.
Monday, March 1, 2010 5:46PM
Wow, does no one here have a job or school to go to?
Monday, March 1, 2010 5:48PM
I just hope they fix it.. soon playstation without playstation network is like a guitar without strings… can't do shit..
I'd say it will be fixed later today if it's only the [ fat ] PS3's that are failing, don't you think they could just go through the [ settings ] and try and compair and see if they could fix it like that.. Altho they are programed diffrently.. All my GH games don't work because of some DLC error RB2 works tho [ no dlc eather ].
All we can do is wait and hope to $hit they can fix it..

Hold on a second. All the people saying "stop complaining" and "don't you have better things to do", that is not the point.
The point is that Sony designed a system which is flawed and have left customers in the dark about what is happening. At 18:30 on 1 March 2010 their last release on twitter was 12 hours ago.
I would not be upset if the fault was merely affecting my ability to play online, what does annoy me is that I am unable to play any games on or offline. This is just absurd.
In response to the person who said to disconnect your etherenet cable, this makes no difference, I have completely disabled my wireless network, no effect.
As for the lack of communication from Sony, in todays age of global communications I would have thought a massive company such as Sony could update their MILLIONS of customers more than once in 12 hours.

lol agreed.

I've never seen anything like this before, worst case scenario for Sony is that they have to do a mass exchange for all "fat" model users (which again I would have no idea how that would go down). And even at that people would be p*ssed because all their data and downloads are wiped out. I seriously just bought FIFA last night, went on to play and got the Trophy Registration Error screen. Just an all around nightmare for Sony…

Read between the lines this is just an advertisement for the new models. why else would sony mention that the new slim models are unaffected. The slim model owners dont care either way they no nothing of this problem so why mention that they work. think about it. well ill wait im already on my second model in 21/2 years not buying another one untill they fix the longevity of their units anyway. New ones work, old ones dont, sale starting today on new ones. who are they trying to fool. funny

Read between the lines.
This is just a 24 hour advertising period for the new slim model why else would they mention that the slim models work, slim model owners dont care they are not affected. think about it. well ill wait im already on my second model in 2 1/2 years and am not buying a new one untill the longevity of the models is fixed. or the price is adjusted, oh wait the new slim model is on sale today in a bundle what a coincidence.

ey add me me im youngmula and we could pla vs each other
Monday, March 1, 2010 9:22PM
The reason many people chose the ps3 was the fact that online play was free. They sold us that when we bought the console. We have every right to complain when out products fail. Plus you can't play offline either so they can eat shit and die.
