Modern Warfare 2, Day 2: PS3 Servers Down, Other Bugs Fixed

Are you just about ready for all the Modern Warfare 2 coverage to end? The game’s Playstation 3 servers aren’t, as they’re causing quite a fuss, choking on demand and creating problems for war-hungry gamers around the globe. Here’s what Infinity Ward community manager Robert Bowling says on the matter: “It’s a server overload not a bug in the code,” so while you might’ve needed a patch to make sure your Playstation 3 trophies were registering properly, it has nothing to do with the server issue, and you should eventually be able to play Modern Warfare 2 online without any more patches. In fact, Bowling now says the servers are gradually coming back online, though some users may still have some problems.
Why are the problems only affecting Playstation 3 owners? Because, as Bowling explains, “Xbox Live servers are maintained and ran by Microsoft. PSN servers are ran and maintained by 3rd party companies hired to do so.” So don’t blame your pent-up aggression on Sony. Actually, don’t even target that rage at Demonware, the company manages Modern Warfare 2′s servers. Save it for the game of course, and be glad that these server problems aren’t affecting PC gamers. It's 7:06 pm EST and the servers are still down. There is no "gradual" on PSN…they are still down.

here here…. Playstation u guys should have been more aware of these servers before the game came out, this is dumb… xbox does look better than dealing with J U N K grrr as a gamer you should send us a voucher for the new maps since this is obviously SONY'S FAULT

Yep, absolutely, these corporations don't care, they've already got your money. You paid for the game, so you have no more money to spend on it, so they could care less. It's ridiculous and sad. Makes IW look like amateurs. I can't believe they could make such a good game but be so clueless about multiplayer servers.

Yeah, i have to admit: Microsoft has one up on the PS3 today… I wouldn't personally think about getting one… but i'm surprised that SONY wasn't able to forshadow this issue… They should have taken the 11, 000, 000+ pre-orders as a hint.

nope, still no joy, been very frustrting to have the game on the night of release, play it for 24 hours then have the server crash, i thought it was my problem at first till i found out the servers were down.

I'm glad I decided to defeat the campaign mode first and just wait for it to cool down….. Oh but wait I cant play online now. How did no one see this coming? Maybe the fact it was the largest and most anticipate game ever and thats just because of online play, should have tipped someone off to prepare for it.

Sounds like everyone is being entirely too critical. Yes, it does suck that the servers are down. Yes, they should've been prepared for such a user load as this game expected to have coming out. But because the server is down you actually think Xbox is better? I'd much rather have this 1 day of down time than get the red ring of death for the 5th time in under 2 years. Go ahead.. get your Xbox and have 2 weeks of downtime to a faulty system instead of contracted company causing the problem. Its only $300 vs. $60… Good call.

it will be fixed by friday and i do think we shud get sum free maps or sumthin coz only about 5% of ALL psn can get online atm on mw2 its pathetic though tht people will go to xbox its a problem but for every problem theres a solution though this makes it look like they were not prepared, still patience people patience

Hmmmm, oh well… my opinion? shit happens, simple as that. But for those who are saying “I’m getting an xbox”, i say do it! go buy you’r crappy computer which will end up breaking down over a period of weeks and cost to be fixed

They launch the most anticipated game ever the day before a holiday that almost everyone has off. Surprise, there is going to be a lot of people wanting to play during their free time. This is very frustrating. I'd like to know if anyone is playing at all.

I am stationed in South Korea…the game came out for us on Veterans Day over here..This has been the first time I have online gamed…I was pretty excited about the experience…UNFORTUNATELY…I have PS3 I guess…first time I have ever put down PS3 over XBOX…but my other Soldiers who have XBOX have been playing all day and well into the night…
With competition being so fierce between Microsoft and Sony…and being so hungry for Consumer Dollars in a downward slump…it would seem these problems would be fixed well in advance before release date…how much worse would Sony be if all traded PS3 for XBOX…I say this passingly I would never give up a Blu-Ray and FREE online access…but it definitely has made me think twice about Sony and their concern for those that are spending their hard earned dollars on their products.

Well, if you go on infinityward.com they said it's back online, but what caused it was everyone on psn going at the same time on multiplayer. Yes, demonware couldn't handle it, their fault not sony, its one day people why give up lmfao. Don't worry they said 20,000 people are going on at a time. Honestly, one day people and most of you are turning to xbox.

20000 servers are up now. Thats why only some people can get on and only until they exit a match. The servers are slowly being put back on line.

I tried gettin gon the server, nothing but trying to connect….but I did leave it on the screen for a while and went back and checked it then the damn thing was working. I was like cool they got it fixed. Well had to run out and came back in guess what…server down. So you guys and gals trying to get online, try and do what i did, I trying again now. I doubt a server outage will ever affect the PC gamers cause the MP is not up to past PC standards and pc gamers won't turn out in numbers to play MP on PC version as they did in the past. There ar still 20,000 dedicated cod4 servers!!

i got on for about a half hour, dumb luck i guess, i was getting all the stupid ass matchmaking server message and it logged on, i played for like 20 mins then got sent off and now get the same stupid message, this is rediculous you pay 60 for a game, then wait for twenty mins for the system update then another 5 for the patches for the game when the game got released 25 mins befor you got it, fucking lazy ass software writers, then get it and god forbid you try and play it online…. GOD forbid

I'm a wife of a ps3 gamer, and I was really glad to spend the day with him…NOT hes just playing MW2 offline!!! And he was very sad as He wore his free Modern Warfare 2 t-shirt!! I agree with all the guys above…they should of saw this one coming…very LAME excuse sony!!!!

my ps3 crashed on the day i got mw2 … then to find out that the servers are down, stuff that! i'm buying an XBOX, bloody Activision (they own demonware) shoudl have been aware of the demand, maybe the pre-orders would have hinted them … OBLIVIOUSLY NOT! xbox live is like 100 million times better than the ps3, although you have to pay for it, it's totally worth it. Besides as of mid next year, PSN is believed to start charging for online use.
