Continuing the long tradition of confirming video games that everyone had already assumed were under development, Square Enix has announced a sequel to Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, dubbed Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. Was this big reveal chock full of information? Of course not! No screenshots or feature list to speak of, but Square says the eponymous duo — a mercenary and a psychopath — will head into China’s Shanghai underworld. The original game’s Fragile Alliance multiplayer mode, which has players stealing loot from each other in a cops and robbers variation, will return. The usual empty promises follow: “inspired by documentary film makers and the user-generated era,” and “never before seen visuals.” IO Interactive, developer of the first game, will return, hopefully righting the litany of past wrongs.

Why was the Kane & Lynch sequel so predictable? Because there’s also a movie in development, starring Bruce Willis. Releasing the game and movie together is a no-brainer from a business perspective, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see both get the same release window. Square’s keeping mum on release dates at the moment, sticking with a general estimate of 2010. Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days will be available for Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. [via Gamespot]
