If you’ve ever seen baggage handlers toss luggage around on the tarmac, you know perfectly well not to check your Xbox 360 on an airplane. Consumerist reader Adam wasn’t so wise, and after flying with his Xbox 360 in checked baggage, he got home and discovered that the console was busted open, with its metal components stored in Ziploc bags (actual Xbox 360 is not the one pictured above). US Airways won’t take responsibility for the damage even though a ticket agent said checking the console wouldn’t be a problem.

As Gamertell’s Jeremy Hill — who works at an airport — points out, carry-on is the way to go when traveling with electronics. That way, you can keep an eye on your stuff; there’s no way the TSA’s going to dismantle an Xbox 360 right before your eyes. As for US Airways, Adam might have an argument if a ticket agent told him checking the Xbox 360 was no problem, but that agent should’ve known the company’s policy, and the policy of basically every major airline: You’re welcome to bring your electronics on board, but it’s not the airline’s fault if something happens. Continental even says it’s not liable for broken CDs and DVDs. [Consumerist via Gamertell]
