World of Warcraft Addict is First to Join U.S. Treatment Camp

An addiction-addled teen will be the first in the United States to get treatment — for his urges to play World of Warcraft. The 19 year-old is headed to the reStart Internet Addiction Recovery Program in Washington state, where he’ll undergo a 12-step program to ween him off the sweet, sweet world of Azeroth. I’ve never been to rehab (Woot!), but I imagine real drug clinics being somewhat different than this: For $14,500, treatment includes camping and wilderness adventures, and absolutely no technology for 45 days. Fifteen grand to relax in the outdoors seems a bit steep to me, but then again I’ve never felt World of Warcraft’s cold embrace, and if I were his parents I certainly wouldn’t want to be around during withdrawal.
