Waluigi Gets No Respect in Mario-Clad Guinness World Record
By Jared Newman
Look, I know Waluigi isn’t the most popular guy in the Mushroom Kingdom, but what the hell is this? Pictured above is a historic gathering in Chifeng City, China, where Guinness World Records recorded 230 people dressed as Mario. The remaining 289 people in the crowd were dressed as either Luigi or Wario, at least judging from the event photos. Apparently, nobody cares about Waluigi.
That’s no surprise — some have gone so far as to call Waluigi one of the worst characters from the Mario series — but I won’t stand for it.
What the naysayers lack is a sense of absurdist humor, which Waluigi embodies. I know his name doesn’t make sense — you can’t flip Luigi’s first initial upside down to get a new letter, like you can with Mario. At best you can flip it horizontally for something like “Juigi” — but the nonsensical nature of his name is what makes it funny. And to the critics who say Waluigi’s voice is grating: Have you listened to Wario? Or Mario? Do you actually find any of Charles Martinet’s voices to be soothing by comparison?
You want to diss Waluigi? Fine. I just signed the petition to get Waluigi into his own game. Right now, it’s me and six other people. The rest of the world, I hate you all. [via GameCulture]

That top 10 list was infuriatingly stupid and so slow.
