Gamers are accustomed to seeing (and hearing) classic video game music plucked on a guitar or hammered out on a grand piano by musically inclined fans. But it’s not often the musical arrangements gamers unconsciously hum get a violin treatment – or, at least, not nearly as publicized. However, those who watched this year’s Spike VGA show (or as the jaded malcontent in me calls them, the VGCs – the ‘C’ standing for ‘commercials’) were treated to a rendition of “Halo Reach” music performed by violinist Diana Yukawa. If the tide is turning, Youtube user GBritaney is certainly part of it.

She’s been playing for nearly 17 years and has covered music from hit anime “Naruto” to “The Legend of Zelda.” However, Britaney’s favorite composer seems to be Nobuo Uematsu of “Final Fantasy” fame. She’s uploaded numerous renditions of his classic “Final Fantasy” compositions. One of my personal favorites – “Scars of Time” by Yasunori Mitsuda from the game “Chrono Cross” – is also represented. She promises this is all without the benefit of sheet music, too.
