Ubisoft to Release Guitar Game That Requires an Actual Guitar
By Joseph Oliveto
With Rock Band and Guitar Hero a thing of the past, someone else needs to come along and give us a chance to rock out to some classic tunes while gaming at the same time. According to G4, that someone will be Ubisoft; they’ve just announced that they’ll be releasing a similar title called Rocksmith. But, there’s a twist: you’ll need a real guitar to play.
This news may come as a relief to video game fans who also have genuine musical skill; many of them complained that the popular Guitar Hero games didn’t legitimately represent the challenge of learning the instrument. However, we’re not too sure that they were trying to.
Either way, Rocksmith is designed to teach gamers actual guitar skills while following the familiar format that made Guitar Hero popular. A package of the game with an electric guitar bundled in will be offered for $200, but we’ll also be able to buy the game indiviually, as it will supposedly be compatible with most electric guitars.
It’s worth mentioning that Rock Band 3 basically tried this same experiment before, but maybe Rocksmith, by devoting itself exclusively to this approach, will have more success. At worst, it will be an instructional video game for those learning to rock the axe.
