The First Round of Games for the Nintendo 3DS Should Be…
By Justin Massoud
The hype train for Nintendo’s next handheld system is having trouble keeping up with the speed of the rumor mill’s churning. Kotaku is fueling both today with a mock-up of what they believe the handheld will look like, based on a sketch and information from a Chinese blogger who may have a development kit for it. Sounds a bit fishy, but who knows? Instead of debating the possible features of the 3DS or its appearance, I’d like to start rumors on something that should probably be a bit more important to gamers than geeky technical stuff, like hardware specs. That is, what Nintendo games the handheld should launch with.
New Super Mario Bros. 3D
Basically a given, considering the original DS New Super Mario Bros. and its follow-up New Super Mario Bros. Wii are two of the biggest selling titles on their respective systems. What would 3D bring to a Mario title? Perhaps it could use 3D functionality to alter the platforms available to jump on.
Super Smash Bros. 3D
The venerable fighting franchise has never made the leap to a handheld. Now might be a good time to start, especially since we likely won’t see a new console entry for a few years. Add in 3D, the no doubt improved tech, and a roster of DS-centric new characters and the 3DS will likely print money like the DS before it.
Golden Sun 3
It was shown at last year’s E3, and then, in typical Nintendo fashion…nothing. Not a word about it since. Could Nintendo be retooling the cult RPG series as a 3DS title? I hope so.
Professor Layton and the Mischievous Room
First off, that’s a completely made-up title. As far as I know there is no such game in development. It’s just a cool name I came up with off the top of my head. But wouldn’t it be neat to see the brain-scratching puzzles of a Professor Layton game altered through the magic of 3D?

I'd include Phoenix Wright, too. Then this would be a verrrry nice list, indeed.
