Techknott’s Handheld GameCube Mod is Shiny and Impressive
By Benjamin Opal
Take a look at this slick handheld GameCube from modder extraordinaire Techknott. All the original GameCube controls and guts are built into an acrylic base with a backlit LCD screen. There are also backlit Gamecube logos on the front and back, which gives the mod a more professional feel. A memory card is built in, and the panel with the screen pops up to reveal the disc tray. Techknott says this mod took a few weeks to build. “The case didn’t come out quite as id hoped it would,” he writes. “Mainly because I used a torch for polishing it (not experienced enough) and because the acrylic kept sticking when I was cutting it.” Don’t be so hard on yourself, man.
In addition to the photo gallery below, there’s also a YouTube video of the handheld GameCube in action. Techknott says he’s taking offers from anyone who wants to buy, but consider a couple things before making the bid: The handheld runs on AC power, so it won’t be fully portable unless you’re willing to mod in some lithium ions (there’s apparently room inside if you want to try it). Also, built-in memory means you won’t be able to bring your save games over, but I imagine you’ll want to experience all your games anew on this beast anyway. [via BenHeck]

I want one of these. I don't know when I'd have time to play it or how I'd carry it around, but I want one.
