It’s a good year to be a Sonic the Hedgehog fan, what with Sonic 4 on the way and not one, but two fan conventions honoring Sega’s blue hedgehog. The mainstay is Summer of Sonic, to be held in London this August for the third consecutive year. But now there’s word of Sonicon, a Sonic the Hedgehog convention scheduled for November 5-7 in Plano, Texas.

Not going to lie, Sonicon’s Web site looks like it has a touch of the Geocities, but official Sonic voice actor Jason Griffith will be there, along with a couple other voices from the series, plus a few musical acts, so this seems legit. I’ll always consider Urkel (ahem, Jaleel White) to be the voice of Sonic, but whatever.

Sonicon appears to be an offshoot of the DFW Hedgehog Show, so if you attend, don’t be surprised to see some real hedgehogs, and people dressed as them, strutting around the show floor. I guess a little weirdness goes with the territory when you commit to this level of Sonic fandom. Three-day passes are $40 if purchased before September 1, and $15 for kids. [Sonicon via The Kartel]
