Rumor: PS3 Will Host Downloadable PS2, Dreamcast Games
By Jared Newman
Someone reportedly slipped up at Sega, posting notes on a private meeting with Sony that mentions Playstation 2 and Dreamcast emulation on the Playstation 3. The meeting notes, dated Aug. 6, 2009, were hosted on what appeared to be a Sega of America press site, though they have since been removed. In the document, it’s said that Sony wants to sell “all PS2 titles on PSN,” as well as a special Japanese import section with pricing of $9.99 to $39.99 for a full game. In addition, the notes say Sega could offer Dreamcast games to the Playstation Network, with Sony picking from a list of titles for “a long period of exclusivity.” This would be a cool service for people new to the Playstation brand, but it’d be a slap in the face for PS3 owners who never got the backwards compatibility they were once promised. This interests me. Especially the Japanese imports. Maybe I could download some Rosetta stone lessons so I could read said imports.
