Rise of the Triad is iPhone-Bound, Drunken Missiles and All

In a time when Doom overshadowed everything, Rise of the Triad was a pretty good first-person shooter, and now it’s being revived for Apple’s iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. A press release says the game will be available “soon” for an unspecified price. From the looks of the above treaser, the Rise of the Triad’s pixelated graphics remain intact on the iPhone, and the controls are a standard combination of virtual thumbsticks and floating fire button.

Rise of the Triad was released in 1995, and as get a refresher from Wikipedia, the memories are flooding back. I recall trying to mortally wound cultist enemies so they’d plead for their lives instead of dying outright, and I remember being stuck with the average character Taradino Cassatt, because I was too cheap to spring for the full version of the game. Most of all, I remember the Drunken Missile, because that’s a sweet name for a gun. Rise of the Triad’s iPhone port will include all four episodes and five characters, but it appears to be a straightforward port with additional features beyond the old-school game itself. I’ll post an update if the game hits the App Store soon, rather than “soon.” [via Games Press and Destructoid]
