Report: Megan Fox Won’t Play Lara Croft in Tomb Raider Movie
By Jared Newman
A third Tomb Raider movie winding its way through the Hollywood pipeline, but Megan Fox reportedly won’t star in it. According to ShowbizSpy, which cites “a movie insider,” the offer to play Lara Croft been on the table for a while, but Fox hates being compared to Angelina Jolie, who starred in the first two Tomb Raider films. “She’s the logical choice to play Lara and she loves the character but the comparison with Angelina is too much,” the insider said. The third movie hasn’t been officially announced, but producer Dan Lin said it will be a reboot showing Lara’s origins (as a character, not a video game).
ShowbizSpy also brings up a previous quote from Fox, in which she said people want to “put me in a box” by likening her to Jolie. “If I am not a party girl and they can’t sell me as that, and I’m not an Oscar winning actress and they can’t sell me as that, then they have to package me somehow and for some reason they latched on to the Angelina thing because I have a lot of tattoos,” she said.
For her part, Jolie reportedly wasn’t happy with the prospect of Megan Fox playing Lara Croft either, with an unnamed source telling The Sun last year that Jolie was intent on reprising her role and that Fox wouldn’t do justice to the part. It all seems like petty Hollywood rumor mill stuff to me, but with little in the way of official details on the third Tomb Raider movie, that’s all we’ve got. [ShowbizSpy via The Tanooki]
