PSA: Portal is Free on Steam Until May 24
By Benjamin Opal
If you never understood those “the cake is a lie” jokes or had any interest in plush weighted companion cubes, now’s your chance to play Portal for free and see what the fuss is about. Valve is offering Portal for free on its Steam PC gaming platform until May 24. You can download Steam and the game from Valve’s Web site now, and with recently-added support for Mac, you can get gaming on two platforms for the price of, well, none.
Portal was the surprise hit of 2007, coming bundled with heavy hitters Half Life 2 (and its two follow-up episodes) and Team Fortress 2 as part of the Orange Box compilation. Unlike those games, in which the goal is to blast foes into submissions, Portal’s gun allows players to warp through space by blasting in and out holes in the walls, ceilings and floors. Puzzles are downright mind-bending by the game’s conclusion, and the whole affair is sped along by a deadpanning robot who wants nothing more than to perform research on you. Get this game if you haven’t already. [via The Kartel]
