Has your obsession with accomplishing video game tasks, leveling up and scoring achievements gotten a little out of hand? Test yourself by spending a few minutes with Progress Wars, a game that boils cheevo-mania down to its bare essentials. One of the game’s taglines says it all: “No mafias, no vikings, no pirates – just pure, uninterrupted progress bars.” Click on the “perform mission” button to accomplish all sorts of meaningless goals, such as “Repel Guns” and “Grow Your Family.” Progress Wars is the work of Jakob Skjerning, who runs the Web development shop Substance Lab. I get the joke here, but it seems like Progress Wars only reinforces the idea that the reward is only as meaningful as the work itself, no matter how boring it may be. Otherwise, a “game” like Progress Wars would actually be fun to play. [Progress Wars via Reddit]
