Privates: Sex Ed Gaming Done Right
By Jared Newman
Last week, we were all creeped out by the virtual reality game that tried to teach abstinence. Privates, a free downloadable game by Zombie Cow, takes a different approach: Drop four cartoon soldiers into the human body, and have them blast sexually transmitted diseases for an hour of platforming fun. I haven’t tried Privates yet, but DIYGamer gives it an enthusiastic review: “Definitely worth a download, it’s an experience you’ll most likely be describing to your friends the next day… but possibly not your family.”
But is it educational? DIYGamer says you probably won’t learn much, but there’s a chance the rare factoid could stick between all the dick and fart jokes. Zombie Cow even admits that education wasn’t the top priority:
You know how you wouldn’t write a history essay based on your experiences playing a World War II shooter? Well, Privates is a bit like that – while the action takes place in and around peoples’ parts, the anatomy is in no way biologically accurate. We’ve had to make loads of concessions in order to make the game fun to play. There’s still loads of important stuff to take from Privates. Just be sensible about which bits, eh?
To see for yourself, download Privates now. [via Reddit]
