Your November NPD Results: Modern Warfare 2 Wins
By Benjamin Opal
It should surprise no one that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was the dominant game release of November, according to The NPD Group (via VG247). After all, it was supposed to be the biggest entertainment launch of all time. But just how big, you ask? NPD says Modern Warfare 2 sold 6.07 million copies when you combine the Playstation 3′s 1.87 million and the Xbox 360′s 4.2 million. That’s a 283 percent increase over sales of November 2008′s leader, Gears of War 2. Top 10 is after the jump.
Here we go:
1. Modern Warfare 2 (360) – 4.20M
2. Modern Warfare 2 (PS3) – 1.87M
3. New Super Mario Bros. Wii – 1.39M
4. Assassin’s Creed II (360) – 794.7K
5. Left 4 Dead 2 (360) -744.0K
6. Wii Sports Resort – 720.2K
7. Wii Fit Plus – 679.0K
8. Assassin’s Creed II (PS3) – 448.4K
9. Dragon Age: Origins (360) – 362.1K
10. Mario Kart Wii – 315.0K
As you can see, New Super Mario Bros. Wii is doing quite well. It could certainly creep up on Modern Warfare 2 in lifetime sales, as EEDAR analyst Jesse Divnich predicted, especially when you consider that Mario Kart Wii, released in April 2008, is still selling strong. Those Wii titles have long legs; even Wii Sports Resort, released last July, is doing great. As a whole, though, the top 50 games sold 5 percent less than they did last year. [via VG247]
