Cyber Monday 2009 Deals are Just So-So for Gamers

If you kept up on the insanity that was Black Friday, 2009’s Cyber Monday gaming deals will probably disappoint you. What we’ve seen so far are good if you’re looking for the very specific things on offer, but ultimately the deals look like reaches to get you spending money on things you wouldn’t normally buy. This is best exemplified by the Nintendo DS, whose Cyber Monday offers are really nothing special: Target is selling Nintendo DSi bundles for $187, including a guard case, a car charger and ear bud headphones. That’s $18 off the usual price, but it’s $17 more than the console alone, and you might not need all that extra stuff.
Meanwhile, Best Buy is doing a two for $25 deal on select Nintendo DS puzzle games, such as Puzzle Kingdoms and Mah Jong Quest: Expeditions. With the games usually selling for $20, you’ll save $15 on the pair, but these certainly aren’t the best games the Nintendo DS has to offer. For other consoles, Walmart’s still offering the Wii Value Bundle, but the unreal deals of last week are gone. Gamestop has some across-the-board game discounts, but nothing eye-popping. Toys ‘R’ Us has Band Hero bundles for $30 off, and DJ Hero for $20 off, but the deal is already sold out for some consoles. So it looks like the ship has sailed on this year’s best deals, but don’t say we didn’t warn you. [via PC World]
