We’ve heard that Kobe Bryant’s a big fan of NBA 2K10, but 2K sports recently made his gaming habit — and those of other NBA stars — a lot easier with some fancy gaming rigs. The elaborate briefcases are adorned with the player’s team logo, and contain an Xbox 360, a flat-panel display, controllers, head phones and, of course, a copy of NBA 2K10. ESPN says that Bryant, Derrick Rose, Brandon Jennings, Josh Smith, Chris Paul, Brooke Lopez and Tyreke Evans were among the recipients. “I’m like the James Bond of gaming,” Bryant said. “I bring this on the plane with me and let the guys play.”

ESPN’s article is worth a read. It goes beyond the 2K gaming rig anecdote to discuss gaming among NBA stars. Among the nuggets of information: Bryant was “a beast at Double Dribble,” Kevin Love spent all day voting for himself to be a player in the upcoming NBA Jam, and Nate Robinson is unquestionably the most hardcore gamer in the league — his entire Call of Duty 4 crew is Level 10 Prestige. “”I think it’s a great way to keep kids off the street and off drugs,” Robinson said. “Video games are almost like a drug themselves. I play them all the time.” [via ESPN]
