Mortal Kombat has been one of the only fighting franchises to offer tons of violent gore and gratuitous amounts of extra rib cages. The series is going through a reboot of sorts, by having Raiden send a telepathic signal to his MK1 counterpart. It sounds crazy, but who cares when God of War’s Kratos will be a special character for the PS3 version. Inside we have the new gameplay video.

Update: We’re having problems embedding the video, Mortal Kombat Kratos Gameplay trailer.

Kratos’ spectacular love for gore and half-clothed women are legendary as are his quick time events. Fortunately NetherRealm Studios have decided to include God of War’s QTE for Kratos, as for the half-clothed women, that was already planned.

We’re not the only ones completely floored by the awesomeness of Kratos in a Mortal Kombat title. God of War III Lead Designer Stig Asmussen recently confessed his utter love for Mortal Kombat and concluded that Kratos appearing in MK is fate.

“One of the things that I always felt separated Mortal Kombat from other fighters was its character design. When you combine this with Kratos’ attitude and tendency for violence, it’s a match made in heaven!” wrote Stig Asmussen on the PlayStation Blog.

Kratos on the PS3’s version of Mortal Kombat is quite the victory, but what do Xbox 360 gamers have to look forward versus a character who single-handedly dismantled various Greek Gods in a somewhat psychotic rage?

“Well, there’s nothing that we have ready to announce but we love our 360 players and we love our PS3 players,” Ed Boon told Giant Bomb. “And I think everybody’s gonna get something they’ll be happy with.”
If Xbox 360 gamers are lucky, they will be receiving a has been Microsoft mascot, but you know we wouldn’t mind playing as Conker.

Who would you like to see as the secret Xbox 360 character? Don’t say Master Chief.
