Modern Warfare 2 Map Pack is $15, Gamers Pissed
By Jared Newman
When Infinity Ward announced a $15 price for the upcoming Modern Warfare 2 map pack, the calls for a boycott were inevitable. Typically, the cost of downloadable maps peak at about $10, but Modern Warfare 2′s sales were atypical, and Activision’s not afraid to exploit. Angry sentiment has yet to congeal into a solid movement, but the disparate parts are there. See the Reddit topics “This is a test, and if you buy these maps at this new price point, you have failed,” and “Don’t buy the new MW2 map pack.” Or the Modern Warfare 2 map pack boycott forum threads on GameFAQs or the official Playstation boards. Or the folks on the Steam forums who decided to boycott before knowing the map pack’s price, on the grounds that the standalone game was a ripoff.
Meanwhile, Blast magazine’s Eddie Makuch joins the revolution, on the grounds that “if I throw my money at it, $15 could become the new norm.” The same logic is applied over at WouldYouKindly. Really though, if people were actually boycotting, they’d refuse to buy any Activision products. In this case, “boycott” is just a fancy way of saying “not buying something because it’s too expensive.” Inevitably, Activision will lower the price of these maps, once enough early adopters have gleefully paid full price. That’s when outraged masses will really be put to the test.

Wow! IW wants to charge me for something I have already paid for. I bought those two maps when I bought COD4. Maybe the $15 includes dinner so they don't feel so bad about doing us dirty. Why would I want to play two maps I have chewed for two years and crapped out. Thank for feeding us the same crap IW your the best:-(

THEN DON"T BUY IT. All these articles talk about how video game companies charge too much for this or should charge for that. THIS ISN'T A NEED. IT'S A WANT! We are not talking about the price of gas or food here. If you don't like the price then don't purchase it. What if they charged $100? I wouldn't buy it but I wouldn't write articles complaining about it. You either feel it is worth what it is being charged or you don't. Reflect your feelings through your purchase or refusal to purchase the map pack and STFU!

Exactly… U don't need to put calls to boycott.. If enough ppl buy the map pack at 15$, that means that it is actually worth 15$ or more. If its not worth that much then ppl would not buy it and Activision would be forced to reduce the price to 'what it is really worth'… It's simple economics..

Craziness! They only had to come up with 3 maps really. Just copy 2 maps from Modern Warfare 1. I was one of those idiots that got the Prestige Edition $150, with the lousy NVG's that do not function. This is extorsion.

people who paid 150 for prestige edition are the reason they are extorting us again . besides if you already paid 150 then what is 15 going to hurt . i bet you tried to play the game with the NVG's on too. STFU LAMES you know you are going to buy it anyway so quit crying .

im mad they went hard for the real night vision goggles and then the game doesn't even have them or have any fucking dark maps, bring back the night, put the new maps at 600 since they are only 3, and if u really want your 15 dollars make that the price for an export of all the mw1 maps, even though there way better in the cod4 format in my opinion

Stop fuckin whining about having to pay for shit. Thats life, you fuckin shell out like 7 bucks for lunch if you live in NY. Wtf is 8 more dollars, that shit cant even get you 5 gallons of gas in most places. Stop bitching, if you're really so offended and so poor that you cant afford to part with 15 measly dollars you probably should be out looking for work instead of burning time playing video games.

agree with this as well. And, frankly, 15 bucks, its in average 2hours work for a normal person. If you like the game, you'll buy it.

hahaha! U just said what i wanted to scream out loud. But my english isn't perfumed with so creative insults! Made my day. Back to work then!

To be honest as of november 11 2009 i will not be buying any activision products,i have bought 2 new ea games so far and have eared tagged another two this year again not activision.
To be honest they are just taking the piss, they charged more for there game, with less features than any other pc fps game ,then its patched every 5 minutes because there was no beta, its hacked to hell and laggy, and to top it off they dummed down the pc version ,so the consoles could keep it.
an absolute betrayal of gamers in all platforms ,Activision have lost it and i only hope there sharholders start to make noise there alienating there customer base.

This is really funny, because the PC gamers told EVERYBODY that Activision and InfinityWard were a joke. Good Game, console players, you've really proven your point.
Oh, and what is this that I heard about a boycott? Hmm, sounds familiar. Kinda like something that the PC gamers tried to do before the game was released. Good Game once again, console players.
What's next? Are you guys going to create a petition to try to change it? That sounds familiar as well. Another Good Game, console noobs.
Personally, I have yet to see any talk about PC Gamers having to pay for the map pack, which is absolutely fair since PC Gamers have never had to pay for map packs in the history of FPS gaming.

Sorry for the double post.. but I just found out that console gamers have a nice little petition going. Apparently most of console gamers are hypocrites.

Its ridiculous that Infinity Ward would charge $15 for a map pack that only has three new maps. It isn't worth that much and gamers know it but they will pay for it because they want to play the game. Imagine if only half of MW2's population bought the map pack. Queues would take longer because gamers who do not own the map pack will get kicked from the game lobby if the game randomly picks one of the maps from the map pack. It is ridiculous that IF would put their gamers in that situation. If you do not buy the map pack, then you will have to put up with being kick from games that have the "new" maps OR you can pay us $15 so you can play. Its a horrible how IF would treat their loyal gamers that way. Its cheap and to be honest, they will lose a lot of gamers over it. I hope no one buys the map pack until Infinity Ward lowers the price. Good job Infinity Ward, you just lost a sizeable portion of your gamers…fucking jackasses!
