In the ongoing game of Whac-a-Mole between Modern Warfare 2’s developers and the players who seek to exploit every cheap game-breaking glitch imaginable, chalk up another victory for Infinity Ward. The team has issued a PC patch for Modern Warfare 2, fixing the so-called God Speed Care Package glitch. This exploit allowed players to run around the map with super speed when a Care Package, Emergency Air Drop or Sentry Gun marker grenade was armed, making it easy to rack up knife kills. Updates will be applied next time Steam is restarted.

Infinity Ward also fixed the following:

  • Sentry Guns: Improved placement detection, preventing cases of Sentry Guns inside geometry
  • Model 1887: Bling using Akimbo and FMJ combination now has same range and damage as non-Bling Model 1887s
  • Improved player collision removing cases of getting into geometry and ‘elevators’
  • Mouse latency tweaks for more mouse movement consistency
  • Fixes to prevent various texture and XP hacks

No word on when patches will be issued for the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions of the game. Incidentally, a new hack may be rearing its ugly head on the Xbox 360: Icrontic reports that nefarious Modern Warfare 2 players are able to load negative experience onto players at the end of a match, setting their ranking back to 1.
