minecraft Big Minecraft Update Coming October 31

Despite my wackier theories, I still think Minecraft is a fascinating game, soon to be more so with an update on October 31. The announcement is Halloween-themed, but the feature list looks good for year-round crafting. Read on for bullet-points, along with some thoughts. Or just the snarky and somewhat cryptic official feature list.

Here’s what Mojang Specifications is promising for the update:

A new realm: A so-called “hell world,” arrived at by portal, and transporting you halfway across the map when you portal back out. Someone on Minecraft’s forums believes this will resemble certain gates in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

New monsters: They will supposedly be more difficult. I’m terrified.

New cave features: The deeper you go, the more light you’ll need to keep monsters away. Also, you’ll be able to make watches, so you know when it’s safe to go outside.

Fishing: You can already craft fishing rods. Finally, they’ll be useful.

Better online support: It’ll be less buggy with more features. Not sure what the latter entails.

Biomes: An oft-requested feature. This likely means that you’ll see areas with distinct terrain and features. Should make exploring more enjoyable.

More music, better sounds: Self-explanatory. But I hope the music stays minimal.
