Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch: Blue Bomber Goes FPS
Feb 19, 2010 - By Jared NewmanDare you not to grin while watching the trailer for Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch, a fan-made first-person shooter starring the Blue Bomber and his robot foes. Suddenly, it all makes perfect sense. The special weapons, the fast action — and those boss battles always seemed a little two-dimensional anyway (har har!). The game, under development by CutmanMike, uses a Doom port called SkullTag, which is designed to bring the classic game’s online play into the current generation. When the game is released — hopefully this year — you won’t need Doom to play it.
Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch features all the bosses from Mega Man 1 through Mega Man 6, but as they’re just skins of Mega Man, so they won’t have any special powers that you can’t collect by running around the map. A couple of special characters, including Proto Man and Doc Robot, will be included as well. You can look up and down in the game, but no sliding as of yet. Best of all, Capcom’s official community blog, Capcom-Unity, posted the trailer and seems excited, so legal threats don’t seem to be an issue. Maybe the extra attention will encourage CutmanMike to hurry up on development, or at least give us a public beta to snack on. [CutStuff via Kombo]
