Before Call of Duty and its offshoot Modern Warfare, there was Medal of Honor. The World War II first-person shooter debuted on Playstation in 1999 and later became a PC classic with games like Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, which tried to mimic the chaos of D-Day as depicted in Saving Private Ryan. But just as the churn of Call of Duty games led to a breakthrough with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, EA is hoping it can make a splash in modern settings with an overhaul of the Medal of Honor series. The game, simply titled Medal of Honor, is penned in for a 2010 release.

This time, Medal of Honor will be set in “war-torn Afghanistan,” with players suiting up as a “Tier One Operator,” an elite group of soldiers that operate on a higher plane than most special forces units. EA claims that it worked with real Tier One Operators from the earliest stages of development (though, it’s tough to find concrete information online on what exactly a Tier One Operator is). “He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war.” Greg Goodrich, Medal of Honor’s executive producer, said. “We are honored to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience.” The social media hype machine is locked and loaded, as you can keep up to date on development on Facebook and Twitter.
