Oh Xbox 360, your puny DVD drive cannot contain Mass Effect 2′s gargantuan space opera. No, this tale must be distributed across two discs, or three discs if you count the bonus features of the Collector’s Edition. Same goes for the PC version of the game, but this is the 2010s we’re talking about; you’ll probably want to download this puppy for PC instead. Anyhow, Mass Effect is an open world that lets you hop around between solar systems and planets, completing missions in the order of your choosing. So does a two-disc game mean constant switching back and forth? Nope, according to Bioware community coordinator Chris Priestly.

“Even though there is a disc swap, it occurs at a carefully planned place in the game (that does not interfere with gameplay) and is done once,” Priestly wrote on Mass Effect’s community forums. “You do not swap back and forth. 1 swap and then done.” The PC version is a two disc install, so once that’s taken care of, you only need one disc to play the whole game. Priestly explained that “you cannot fit this much awesome on one disc.” Having played the first game, I’m inclined to agree. [Mass Effect Forums via Kotaku]

Not surprising, and not at all that big of a deal. If you remember in the PS1 days, FFVII was four discs. You never had to swap them when you went to different parts of the world. Rather, it was the story and questlines that changed. I also wouldn't be surprised if they had the option to install disk two to the hard drive and just run with the first disk like Forza 3 has you do.

You're just mad because it's staying exclusive to XB360.
