As a sequel to ME1, ME2 fails. As an RPG, ME2 fails. As a shooter, ME2 fails.

Where is does well is combining a single player 3rd person button masher with a decent sci-fi story and gaming elements that appeal to the masses.

Much like many games released in these times, ME2 is obviously about making Bioware money and not about pushing forward or expanding the bounds of a genre.

It will not satisfy someone looking for an RPG. It will not satisfy a person looking for a pure shooter. However, those two groups have very little purchasing power and neither really exist much on the platform this game was designed for: Xbox360.

I'm not claiming this is a good thing. In fact it's a sad commentary on our society as a whole. But, there is fun to be had if you can put aside your desire for something this game is not.

Is it worth the purchase, though? Can you find a book, movie(s), or other activity to waste 30 to 60 hours? Perhaps this alone is its one true redeeming quality.

Of course, FPS fans are going to like this game. That wasn't the original fan base for this game. I hate that the new games today are all dumbed down for the idiot FPS fans of today. I personally like to explore, that's why I like games like ME1 and FFVII, but there aren't games of that caliber very often. As you can see, there was what, 7 or 8 years in between those two open world games. There have been others, but those are my favorites.

I agree with Dan, although some of the changes are awesome the over all game is rather disappointing. I was an avid promoter of the first one. But I wont be for this one. Its like they took away all the good stuff.

I agree, its incredibly disappointing. The game has been completely dumbed down. The combat feels less fluid to me as well, with less powers to draw on or spend points on, it's definately moved into the cookie cutter shooter variety, which is hardly what made the first one unique.

Unfortunately, since Bioware seems to think these days that all you need to make a game exceptional is 100 hours of voice acted dialogue, I don't think the game will live up to its predecessor.

Sadly, there are very few truly good sci-fi rpg's that get released these days so it will have to do.

Hey, I pointed out the mistake that was made earlier.

I just wanted to say good luck at finding something more interesting than that. I do some freelance work for a game site and have been given the task of looking for cheats, exploits, or just anything that might need a serious walkthrough. So far it seems as if Bioware has really simplified things and made Mass Effect 2 just a third-person shooter with some RPG elements rather than a nice blend of the two like its predecessor. It's almost all run, cover, shoot, repeat (with only a couple powers thrown in).

I am very disappointed in Bioware for this.

Anyway...good luck!
