masseffect2 3 Walkthrough Wednesday: Mass Effect 2 Cheats and Tips

So you took critics’ advice and picked up Mass Effect 2, and now you want to cheat your way through it? Eh, I won’t stop you as long as you’re not bothering anyone else. Anyway, I need your eyeballs so the publisher will also let me write about stuff like this. Most of these tips are comeĀ from Cheat Code Central, which already has posted an exhaustive Mass Effect 2 trainer, but I’ll start with something I encountered myself right after tearing off the shrink wrap last night:

If you can’t load your Mass Effect save game into Mass Effect 2 (you get an error that says “no character data found”), pop in Mass Effect and beat the game again using your closest save to the final battle. Think of it as a trainer to get you back into shape. Once you’ve stomped Saren and made it back to the title screen, you should be able to load that character in Mass Effect 2.

Here are some actual Mass Effect 2 tips. It’s kind of a sad list now, but if I encounter anything mind-blowing on my own, or discover any new tips on the Internet, I’ll post an update.

  • To mine faster, rapidly tap LT when scanning a planet instead of holding it, and look for a blip on the scanner. This will tell you the best location to send a probe.
  • During conversations, press LT when the wings appear in the top left corner of the screen to get bonus Paragon points, and press RT when the star appears to get bonus Renegade points.
  • View our achievement list here.

Hey, I pointed out the mistake that was made earlier.

I just wanted to say good luck at finding something more interesting than that. I do some freelance work for a game site and have been given the task of looking for cheats, exploits, or just anything that might need a serious walkthrough. So far it seems as if Bioware has really simplified things and made Mass Effect 2 just a third-person shooter with some RPG elements rather than a nice blend of the two like its predecessor. It's almost all run, cover, shoot, repeat (with only a couple powers thrown in).

I am very disappointed in Bioware for this.

    Anyway…good luck!

I agree, its incredibly disappointing. The game has been completely dumbed down. The combat feels less fluid to me as well, with less powers to draw on or spend points on, it's definately moved into the cookie cutter shooter variety, which is hardly what made the first one unique.

Unfortunately, since Bioware seems to think these days that all you need to make a game exceptional is 100 hours of voice acted dialogue, I don't think the game will live up to its predecessor.

Sadly, there are very few truly good sci-fi rpg's that get released these days so it will have to do.

I agree with Dan, although some of the changes are awesome the over all game is rather disappointing. I was an avid promoter of the first one. But I wont be for this one. Its like they took away all the good stuff.

Of course, FPS fans are going to like this game. That wasn't the original fan base for this game. I hate that the new games today are all dumbed down for the idiot FPS fans of today. I personally like to explore, that's why I like games like ME1 and FFVII, but there aren't games of that caliber very often. As you can see, there was what, 7 or 8 years in between those two open world games. There have been others, but those are my favorites.

As a sequel to ME1, ME2 fails. As an RPG, ME2 fails. As a shooter, ME2 fails.

Where is does well is combining a single player 3rd person button masher with a decent sci-fi story and gaming elements that appeal to the masses.

Much like many games released in these times, ME2 is obviously about making Bioware money and not about pushing forward or expanding the bounds of a genre.

It will not satisfy someone looking for an RPG. It will not satisfy a person looking for a pure shooter. However, those two groups have very little purchasing power and neither really exist much on the platform this game was designed for: Xbox360.

I'm not claiming this is a good thing. In fact it's a sad commentary on our society as a whole. But, there is fun to be had if you can put aside your desire for something this game is not.

Is it worth the purchase, though? Can you find a book, movie(s), or other activity to waste 30 to 60 hours? Perhaps this alone is its one true redeeming quality.
