That Man-and-Game Wedding? Here it is in Video
Last week, we told you all about the man who wed a Nintendo DS character from dating simulation game Love Plus. A ceremony for the wedding broadcast over the weekend on the Japanese video Web site Nico Nico Douga, and Lisa Katayama was thoughtful enough to tune in and publish a summary on BoingBoing. It was, apparently, a glorious multimedia affair, complete with an MC, a DJ, a priest and a slideshow of the fond moments shared by player Sal9000 and character Nene Anegasake. All the while, Web site commenters sharing sentiments of good will, horror and concerns that Japan was coming to an end. And my big question from last week was answered: Nene indeed “understood” that she was getting married, and came prepared with remarks. Nene’s in-game bridesmaid offered best wishes as well.
I’m pretty terrified of this whole ordeal, but Katayama cast the story in an interesting light: “The footage seen here of Sal and Nene tying the knot between real and virtual is a highly imaginative, multimedia project orchestrated by a guy determined to officiate his devotion to his video game, and to pay homage to the otaku subculture that nurtures this type of creativity,” she writes. She also said no one was taking the ceremony too seriously and called it a “sort of performance art.” I imagine the same could be said about the consummation. [BoingBoing via Kotaku]
