Here’s a Kindle Emulator Running Super Mario Bros.
By Benjamin Opal
When Amazon announced that the Kindle would get an app store, including some games, I don’t think this emulation of Super Mario Bros. is what the company had in mind. But Tokyo-based KLab has pushed on with the classic Nintendo game running on computer software that is, in turn, emulating the Kindle on with KLab’s mock development kit. What you’ll discover, after watching the YouTube video below, is that the e-reader sucks at playing live action games. It’s choppy and slow, there’s no sound and Mario can for some reason kill Goombas just by running into them.
KLab has apparently emulated two other games, Tetris and Lode Runner, but there’s no video to see whether they run any better than Super Mario Bros. Maybe the actual Kindle Development Kit, released in limited beta a couple months ago, will fare better, but I’m not counting on it. Don’t expect to see Super Mario Bros. in the Kindle app store either way. At least now you know it probably wouldn’t work. Best stick to crossword puzzles and, you know, books.
