Halo: Reach VGA Trailer: All Plot, No Gameplay
Dec 14, 2009 - By Jared NewmanFor the Halo:Reach trailer that premiered during Spike’s Video Game Awards show on Friday, Bungie and Microsoft gave us just a tiny taste of what’s to come. No doubt the little details of this trailer will be poured over by Halo story aficionados, picking out important details from the snippets of dialog between a group of Spartan soldiers. There’s more chatter about the “winter contingency,” which has the sound of an emergency plan, but it’s anybody’s guess as to what this really means.
Perhaps most interesting, however, is the introduction of a speechless Spartan lieutenant, about whom a fellow soldier asks, “Is this the new number six?” This looks like an adequate vehicle for the main character, as he’s said to favor “Lone Wolf” approaches. The potential is there for squad-based combat, maybe with up to six players, but Bungie has said nothing of the sort. The eagle-eyed editors at Wikipedia note that the other Spartans appearing in the trailer are Jorge-052, Carter-259, Kat-320, an unnamed sniper and an unnamed heavy weapons specialist. Of course, all of this tells us very little about the game play, but we do have some supposed Halo: Reach screenshots for that. The game is due out in the fall of next year, but owners of Halo 3: ODST will get access to a multiplayer beta.
