Gears of War 3 is Happening in 2011. Here’s the Trailer
By Jared NewmanMicrosoft spoiled its own surprise last week by revealing Gears of War 3 early, but now it’s official with a trailer and big announcement on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. For better or worse, you’ll have to watch the game’s design director, Cliff Bleszinski, try to pass off the cool nerd routine during his interview with Fallon, because NBC hasn’t uploaded a standalone trailer yet. The actual Gears of War 3 trailer, entitled “Ashes to Ashes,” starts at about the halfway point in the video (looks like the embed code is linking to the wrong video, otherwise we’d post it here).
As CliffyB notes in his talk time, Gears of War 3 will include a double-barreled shotgun, and “female soldiers, finally,” noting that fans have been requesting a greater presence from the fairer sex. Plot was never the series’ strong suit, so as you may not recall, the second Gears of War revealed a greater threat to humankind than the locust alone, the Lambent. Bleszinski mentions that these aliens mutate as you attack them, and you can get a glimpse of one in the trailer. If you’re curious about the music in the trailer, it’s “Heron Blue” by Sun Kil Moon, from the album “April.” Makes sense, given the game’s expected April 2011 launch.
