Gamer Sets Sonic the Hedgehog Record – 22 Seconds
By Lawrence Sonntag
James Richards set a new record for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 at the London 2009 Golden Joystick Awards by completing the game’s first level in 22 seconds. The record challenge is part of a promotional event dubbed the “Lucozade Alert Plus Super Sonic Challenge,” based around the energy drink Lucozade Alert Plus. Guinness World Record officials were in attendance and confirmed the accomplishment, earning Richards a world record in addition to his previous for completing Sonic 3 in 49 minutes, 17 seconds. Richards stated that he has been “training for weeks,” and naturally attributes his ability to focus to the sponsoring energy drink. Let this be a lesson to you kids: chug enough energy drinks and you may eventually set gaming records – before your body accelerates to the point that you phase out of this dimension of existence.
