Free Old Game Alert: Tex Murphy from GOG.com
Dec 17, 2009 - By Benjamin Opal
As if you weren’t already buried in games to play right now, the folks at Good Old Games, or GOG.com as it’s more commonly known, have a free classic game for you. From now until December 24, you can download Tex Murphy 1 and 2, no strings attached. Just register a free account with the site, and you’re good to go. If you’re a GOG loyalist and previously paid for this classic murder mystery adventure, the site is offering an undisclosed alternative gift if you register at this link. GOG’s promise is that no matter how crusty these games look, they’ll run just fine on your modern PC thanks to some programming wizardry. No DRM, either.
Tex Murphy is a point and click adventure game, in which the titular main character must seek out clues to solve a murder mystery. It’s 2033 in San Francisco, and in investigating the death of a university professor, Murphy begins uncovering deaths elsewhere in the scientific community. In the first game, Murphy attempts to tie it all together. The second game, believe it or not, takes him to Mars to investigate the kidnapping of a tycoon’s daughter. Sure, your eyes won’t pop at the visuals, but who can complain for $0?
