Fact: PS3 PWNS Xbox 360 in Console Sales

We’re huge fans of Halo: Reach and battling out Black Ops newbies on Xbox 360, but the allure of Sony’s Blu-ray packing PS3 is too much to pass up and it looks like others agree.
As it turns out globally, the Xbox 360 is taking a beating from the PS3 and it doesn’t look like the future Uncharted 3 supporting console is going to step down as the new market leader.
According to data from Strategy Analytics, the PS3 is picking up tremendous speed to being the leader in console sales for the foreseeable future and it’s all because of those fashionable Europeans and completely awesome Asian countries.
“While the Kinect peripheral has given a boost to Microsoft’s Xbox 360 strategy, the console’s performance outside of the U.S. continues to disappoint,” said the report’s author Jia Wu, an analyst for Strategy Analytics’ Digital Consumer Practice.
According to Wu’s report the PS3 has overtaken the Xbox 360 in global sales. At the end of 2010, the PS3 reached the install base of 43.4 million and the Xbox 360 limped in with 42.9. Okay, well not a limp, but still a little behind of Sony’s machine.
As it stands the Xbox 360 leads the United State’s install base by 10 million units over the PS3, but in Europe the PS3 has an install base of 14.7 million units vs the Xbox 360′s 13.7 million units. The Xbox 360 also lags in sales throughout Asia. Strategy Analytics called this weakness in under performing sales in Europe and Asia “as a drag on its global performance.”
Nintendo continues to dominate globally with an install base of 75.6 million active units. Yet, the Wii’s days of console dominance is coming to an end. Strategy Analytics reports that Wii sales will drop over 10 million which will make an opportunity to “launch a Wii successor within the next 12 months.”
The report also indicated that Xbox 360 install base will end with 13.7 million, and the PS3 will balloon up to 15.7 million in 2011. When those figures are projected even further imagine the discrepancies we’ll see and how it will shape the console market in the future.

I currently have a 360. I do like the system now but indeed the ps3 is starting to look better. Yeah the 360 has gears and halo, but that's really about it. The online is pretty good but the paid subscription sucks. I wouldn't mind switching to a ps3 but I have so many games for the xbox. With bigger disk space on the ps3, games on the ps3 will be better graphically. I know that the 360 is making new disks but it is still smaller than the ps3 disks. The downside to the ps3 is downloading every game to the hard drive in order to play it. This is due to the loading time on the ps3s. With a large hard drive, I believe that it would be hard to completely fill it. SO overall, I will keep my 360, but notice that the ps3 is becoming the greater console.

PlayStation 3 is really taking on, I've always had PlayStation 2 and loved it, I have XBOX360 and I love it but since I am living in Asia not many of my friends have XBOX360 They only have PS3 which is more popular then XBOX360 in the Asian marked. Also many of my favorite games comes to PS3

I dont have a 360. And Im proud of it. The only reason anyone should EVER buy it was halo games. All the other good games on it are on the ps3 too. Not to mention the 360 crashes and breaks a lot and doesnt have a blu-ray player.
Though more expensive the PS3 has always been superior. Hopefully it will match up with the Wii, which I also like more then 360s.
(Yes the only consoles I own are either Sony or Nintendo)
