Dragon Age ‘Ostagar’ DLC coming Jan. 5
By Lawrence Sonntag
In the unlikely event that anyone has exhausted all the content in Dragon Age: Origins, the first chunk of post-release DLC will soon arrive. Return to Ostagar gives players the chance to return to the battleground that claimed most of the Grey Wardens in Ferelden, along with new items, more darkspawn, and another chance to recruit a dog into the party. The DLC will cost 400 Bioware Points / 400 Microsoft points / $4.99 and hit the PC and Xbox 360 January 5th, with the PS3 DLC coming later that month.
This DLC joins previous expansions that were available upon the game’s launch: The Stone Prisoner and Warden’s Keep. Stone Prisoner added new party member Shale, and different locations and items, while Warden’s Keep reveals more of the game’s back story and gives players a bank to store excess items.
There is slight controversy in the gaming community surrounding the DLC in Dragon Age. Some aren’t fond of the game’s method of pitching DLC, which involves NPCs actively selling expansion content through in-game conversations. Others claim that functionality provided by the DLC – like the ability to store items in a bank – is basic functionality and should have been included in the original game, especially since it was available when the game was launched. Perhaps this DLC’s reasonable pricing will warm its reception.
