cube Cube Film Director Really Wants a Cube Video Game

The only Cube movie I’ve seen is Cube 2: Hypercube, and it was such a mindfreak that I’m not sure if I care to see any others. Cube video game, however? I’m down. So is Vincenzo Natali, who directed and co-wrote the original psychological thriller n 1997. Speaking to MTV News, Natali shows that he’s no anti-game film snob:

I would very much like to do a ‘Cube’ game, I’d love to do a game. When I was writing it with my writing partner, Andre [Bijelic], we were saying to each other, Are we writing a film or are we writing a game? It’s always been amazing to me that no one has attempted to turn it into a game. I would very much like to do that. That’s how I’d like to go back into the ‘Cube’ world.

Natali explained that he co-owns the game rights with Canadian Film Center. All that’s needed is a game developer who can make it happen. “If there are any game designers out there, give me a call,” he said.

The challenge in a Cube game would be to actually recreate the terror of being trapped in a mysterious and deadly structure, without falling back on inconsequential “avoid the death trap” minigames. Maybe that’s why Natali hasn’t found any takers yet. [via MTV News]
