It’s midweek and that means you might’ve missed some recent news. Let’s get you up to speed by starting with a Wii price cut coming soon to a retail store near you. We’ll move on for a remake of Dead Rising 2 featuring the camera-touting Frank West then we’ll end with a list of the first confirmed ten fighters for Street Fighter X Tekken.
Thor and Captain America will be the next Marvel heroes to get the big-screen treatment this summer, and while we’re certainly looking forward to watching these two icons kick some ass at the movies, gamers like to stay home and kick some ass on our own from time to time. Luckily, titles for both of these characters are in development, and we’ve got some promising images from them for you to check out.
Each week sees the release of countless downloadable titles across all three major game consoles – some big, some small and some old titles given a new lease on life. In the effort of limiting the time you spend gathering information on these games and increasing the time you spend playing them, we’re doing the legwork for you.
Here are this week’s downloadable releases across the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii.
“The Legend of Zelda” franchise turned 25 this week – another Nintendo series in recent months to hit the impressive milestone. Mario celebrated his 25th birthday last September, and two months later Nintendo threw him a party at the Nintendo World Store in New York City. (Full disclosure: I covered the event.) Most would agree he deserves such fanfare. But what about Link and Zelda? Will there be a celebration in their honor? We asked Nintendo.
Call of Duty: Black Ops’ crossbow gets short shrift when compared to the more exotic tomahawk — and for good reason: it’s fun watching one hurled across a map to find its unsuspecting mark a few seconds later. Though both require a greater degree of finesse (and some luck) than the conventional weapons, the tomahawk has become an obvious favorite in a community obsessed with catching – and viewing – one-in-a-million kills. But for a change let’s admire the runt of the weird weapon litter.

Philanthropistic website ExtraLives.org is live streaming a marathon playthrough of over a dozen Mario games – including the original classic and some lesser known titles – in an effort to raise money for “Free the Children” — an organization that aids impoverished, exploited children around the world. The session will last through January 2nd, 2011 with the goal at $4,000.
At the time of this publishing, the group has raised $538. Not too shabby, but I know gamers are more generous than that. A mere $5 donation not only results in a nice warm feeling in the pit of your belly that no amount of achievement unlocking could match, but entry into a raffle to win prizes like t-shirts. Metroid: Other M has a glitch that seems so easy to execute, and whose consequences are so dire, that it’s worth relaying. Apparently, after beating the area boss Rhedogian in Sector 3 for the third time, retreating to the save point locks the only door that lets you continue through the game. In other words, don’t save after beating Rhedogian. Instead, proceed forward, and hold off on saving until you’ve beat the boss again after getting Super Missiles. Otherwise, you’ll have to load a back-up save file, or if you don’t have one, start the game all over again.
