Capcom Gets Some Gears of War In Its Lost Planet 2

Fans of the crossover will delight in hearing that characters from Epic’s Gears of War will make a cameo in Capcom’s upcoming shooter Lost Planet 2. It’s not totally clear how Gears’ two main characters, Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago, will play in the game. They will probably be offered as downloadable characters for the Xbox 360 version of Lost Planet 2, and will stay out of the single-player experience, Kotaku reports. That’d make sense, although I’d love to see the macho characters from one convoluted sci-fi plot influence what happens to the macho characters from another convoluted sci-fi plot. It’s not like anyone’s paying attention to these story lines anyway.
The crossover follows Lost Planet 2 designer Jun Takeuchi’s professed admiration for Gears of War. Takeuchi also designed Resident Evil 5, and he reportedly revamped the game’s controls during development to make them more “Gears-like.” I can definitely recall some sequences from RE5 that borrow Gears’ duck and cover vibe.
Capcom hasn’t said whether Playstation 3 fans will get any exclusive characters, but Killzone’s Sev and Resistance’s Nathan Hale seem like good prospects. I suppose Nathan Drake from Uncharted is a possibility, but that’s just silly. You might as well throw in Sackboy at that point. [via Kotaku]
