Braid’s Big PSN Launch Imminent

Playstation 3 owners who missed out on Braid when it launched for Xbox Live Arcade last year can rewind their streams of tears, as the game is coming to the Playstation Network a week from today. Hothead Games’ Joel De Young announced that Braid will cost $15 on PSN when it launches on November 12. Looking at the trailer, I don’t see much difference from the Xbox 360 version, which is also available now on PC, but that’s alright because the original was nearly perfect as is.
If you missed it, Braid tells the story — a very loose and abstract one — of a guy named Tim who sets about finding a princess. On its face, the game looks a bit like Mario, requiring you to stomp enemies and collect puzzle pieces. Seems and looks pretty simple, until you realize that everything you do can be rewound in time. Missed a jump or ran into an enemy? Just hold a button until you’re back to an earlier point in the level. As the game progresses, you’re able to slow down time, manipulate it simply by walking and create an alternate version of yourself, all in the name of confronting past mistakes and learning without consequences. I bought Braid on PSN without even thinking. My hands just went on the controller and clicked the appropriate buttons subconsciously. I love Braid, played it through twice, and I will play it again on the PS3! Brilliant brilliant game! Jonathan Blow had said he didn't plan to bring it to PSN, but here it is, and it is great! Thank you Jonathan Blow for not disappointing us.
