Bioshock 2’s Multiplayer, Like Halo on Adam

Here’s a minute of video from Bioshock 2’s multiplayer, providing a nice glimpse of what you get when four development studios work on the same game. The result is, well, pretty plain.I think we’re looking at deathmatch here, since the players are just running around aimlessly and shooting at anything that moves. You’ll see a bit of the tommy gun in action, as well as a crossbow, but the star of the show will be the super powers your Adam-obsessed characters bring to the table.

I like the idea of being able to freeze an opponent, then run up and smash his iced over body to bits with a club, and I’m hoping there will be plenty of opportunities to turn pools of water into electricity hazards. Still, I can’t shake the feeling that Bioshock 2’s multiplayer will feel like a mere distraction from the single-player campaign. A lot of the action in this video is straight up shooting, then hiding in a safe place to regenerate health, and that’s nothing you haven’t experienced elsewhere. I think the game would’ve done just fine without multiplayer, but then again, it’s not my production investment on the line. Bioshock 2 is due on February 9 for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.
