Beware the Game-Breaking Metroid: Other M Glitch

By

Metroid: Other M has a glitch that seems so easy to execute, and whose consequences are so dire, that it’s worth relaying. Apparently, after beating the area boss Rhedogian in Sector 3 for the third time, retreating to the save point locks the only door that lets you continue through the game. In other words, don’t save after beating Rhedogian. Instead, proceed forward, and hold off on saving until you’ve beat the boss again after getting Super Missiles. Otherwise, you’ll have to load a back-up save file, or if you don’t have one, start the game all over again.

As Kombo points out, the odds of seeing a patch for this glitch in Metroid: Other M seems unlikely. Nintendo rarely issues title updates for individual games, instead opting to release fixes alongside system updates. There’s no word on when the next system update will become available.

Two weeks ago, Nintendo issued a system update intended to defeat hacked consoles and homebrew gaming. I don’t know whether this system update caused the bug, but it seems odd that no Metroid: Other M reviews picked up on what seems like a very obvious and devastating glitch. [IGN via Kombo]
