Batman: Arkham City, the long-awaited sequel to the popular Batman: Arkham Asylum, has an official release date of October 18, 2011, according to G4. While we can’t say we’re too thrilled with the title, if it is anything like its predecessor, we are in for one hell of a gaming experience this fall.

Video games based on superhero franchises tend to be universally disappointing, and prior to its release, fans had good reason to be skeptical about Arkham Asylum. While not officially tied to the Nolan franchise of films, the game looked like an obvious attempt to cash in on the Caped Crusader’s current media popularity.

Luckily, even gamers can get a pleasant surprise every now and then. The release was hailed by both critics and fans (in this market, they are basically the same thing) as a remarkably entertaining game. Hopefully its sequel will be no different.

And, according to G4, we don’t need to worry about that. They had the opportunity to test the game out, and they guarantee readers that it ain’t a disappointment.

With the environment of the game moving to, well, the entire city, we can only expect that the sequel will be more intense than the original. Is it too much to hope that this will even exceed the quality of the first one? We felt it was too much to hope that the first one would even be any good, but look at how that turned out…

Are you looking forward to this game as much as we are?
