We recently reported that the long-awaited Batman: Arkham City has finally got a release date, and now we’ve got a gameplay trailer, courtesy of IGN, just to whet our appetites some more. Read on to find out if we like what we see, as well as to view the trailer yourself and make up your own mind.

Long story short: we’re impressed. Visually, the game is nearly cinematic, recalling the metropolitan hell of Taxi Driver. The gameplay itself does appear to stretch the limits of the imagination–we’re supposed to be playing as Batman here, not Spider-Man–but we doubt that anyone will mind the impossible acrobatics of the character when they are using them to beat the ever-loving crap out of the bad guys.

Obviously, the most attractive element of this game is the large scale it encompasses. Gotham City has been more or less claimed by the popular Batman rogue’s gallery, and one can see this game having a storyline epic enough to satisfy even the most critical comic book fan.

Of course, gameplay trailers never quite recreate the actual experience of playing the game, but given what we’re looking at, we like what we see.  Check out the trailer right here to form your own opinion…
